Trip to Australia on the mind of PHS basketball player
Rylie Birch, a senior at Pinnacle High School, was selected to play girls basketball and represent Utah at the Down Under Sports Tournament in Australia in July of this year.
Over the years she has gained a love for the sport and wishes to thank the coaches she has had. She began playing for Pinnacle as a seventh grader and was coached by Mrs. Larsen and Mrs. Wells, the next several years she was coached by Heidi Kay, this year she was coached my Michael Shaffer. While in the ninth grade she took a basketball skills class from Coach Bowen who at that time was coach for the boys basketball team. Mr. Bowen taught Rylie many skills but most importantly the love of the game.
Rylie is the daughter of Robert and Rhonda Birch of Price and the granddaughter of Larry and Carolyn Randall, of Elmo, and Louann and the late Bob Birch of Price.
She is employed at Little Caesars and Sorenson Communtications in Price. Rylie has maintained High Honors all through high school even while working and playing sports.
A typical day this year for her was going to school from 8 a.m. until 10:40 a.m. then going to work at Sorensons from 11 - 4 p.m., going to basketball practice from 5 - 7 p.m. and then to Little Caesars from 7 - 10 p.m.
Rylie was able to put enough money away to pay for her initial deposit to go to Australia. Rylie works hard and plays harder.
