A report of a student with a gun brought a lockdown at Helper Junior High on Tuesday morning a little after 8 a.m.

The report came that a student was seen entering the building with a gun and immediately police from Helper, the Utah Highway Patrol and Price City converged on the building. Units also went to Sally Mauro Elementary for safety's sake.

Students at Helper Junior High were told to go to the gym and then they were locked down in that area while police and school officials searched lockers.

Reports say that another student confirmed that a student did have what looked like a rifle but that he was a high school student and had got on the bus to go to Carbon High School. The name of the student that supposedly was carrying the rifle was given to police and they contacted the young man's mother. His mother said that he had a wooden gun that was being used for a drama production at the high school.

The Carbon School District bus garage was contacted, but by that time the bus had arrived and the student was already in class. Police went to the high school and pulled him out of class to talk with him.

After the search and the findings the students at Helper Junior High were addressed by principal Tom Montoya where he told them what had happened.

Then the students were released to go back to class.
