If the first two meets of the season are any indication, then the Carbon High Track and Field team might be on their way to a successful season.

Head coach Jimmy Jewkes said the Dinos performed well at the Red Rocks Invitational Meet in Moab over the weekend and in Spanish Fork on Tuesday night.

The boys team placed fourth with 74 points in Moab, while the girls team took fifth place with 60.5 points.

"We did really well in Moab," Jewkes said despite the team missing a few key athletes for the meet.

For the girls team, senior Regan Powell started the season off strong with a top performance at the Red Rocks meet. Powell took first in the 800m, 1600m and 3200m races.

"I never thought I would see an athlete accomplish that in one meet, but she did it," Jewkes said.

Other notable performances included Daulton Nelson taking second place in the long jump in Moab while tying a school record with 22' 6" inches in Spanish Fork.

Sophomore Garrett Marsing took second in the 3200m race.

Junior Kayleigh Potts took first place in the high jump with a jump of 5'3". Sophomore Abbi Powell finished in second with a high jump of 4'9".

Overall Jewkes said he was pleased with the performances and said the team is getting better in anticipation of competing with other teams in Region 12 this season.
