HELPER - Our father and grandfather, Raymond V. Telarole, age 82, left this mortal existence on March 3, 2012.

Ray, as he was known, was born in Helper to Henry and Ruth Verde Telarole on May 17, 1929. He was the first of three children who attended Notre Dame and Carbon High School, graduating in 1947. Ray played baseball for Carbon High School in each of his years. Following graduation he began his career with the coal mines and D&RGW Railroad. He played baseball on the Kenilworth Coal and Industrial League and had inquires from professional ball teams to try out for their Minor League teams. However, he chose to stay in Helper to handle family responsibilities.

Ray married Lois Cotten on Aug. 16, 1952. Ray was artistic, industrious and together Ray and Lois built their beautiful home in Helper and a summer cabin in Scofield. In 1959, he planted 30 pine trees in his backyard which are now a small forest of 50 to 70 foot high trees. He always was working on a project to improve and beautify his home and property. Ray was family oriented and was a good father and provider for his family. Ray's family and friends always enjoyed the various stories he liked to tell of his many memories of his youth, work, friends and family.

Ray retired in 1998 due to failing health and in 2010 Ray and Lois divorced.

He leaves behind his sister, Virginia Adams of Price; his brother James Telarole of Hurricane; his son, Raymond H. (Laurie) Telarole, Helper; daughter, Shauna (David) O'Brien, Price; three grandchildren, Erica O'Brien, Salt Lake, Lauren and Bryan Telarole, Chadwicks, NY. Ray also leaves behind a beloved aunt, uncle, cousins, nieces, nephews and many wonderful friends.

Ray's family is grateful for the tender and loving care he received from all of the healthcare facilities during the final years of his life. The staff at The Heirloom Inn has been so kind and patient with Ray during the past three years. We are very appreciative for the generous care he received there. Ray wound up having to spend three weeks at the Parkdale Care Center for physical therapy and rehabilitation. The staff at Parkdale was very kind and the family appreciates their efforts while working with Ray under difficult circumstances. We cannot say enough about the professionalism and kindness that was shown to Ray by the staff at Castleview Hospital's Intensive Care Unit. We want to give a special thanks to both Dr. Sterling Potter and Dr. David Nichols. Carbon County has a lot to be proud of when it comes to its healthcare professionals and we could not have expected better care anywhere.

His remains will be handled by Mitchell's Mortuary and his ashes will be interred in the Helper City Cemetery near his loved ones who preceded him in death. Our family would also like to thank Mitchell Funeral Home for the tender, professional care they provided during this very difficult time.

Graveside service, Thursday, March 8, 2012, Noon at the Mt. View Cemetery in Helper. In lieu of flowers, contributions maybe made to St. Anthony's Catholic Church where Ray was a devout and active member his entire life. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home of Price where friends are welcome daily and may share memories of Ray at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net.
