The College of Eastern Utah Golden Eagles basketball team continues to compete against Scenic West Athletic Conference teams in an effort to capture the conference title later this year.

The Eagles quest continued this past week as the team hosted Snow College last Thursday night and then they traveled to Wyoming Saturday to take on the Western Wyoming Spartans.

The week kicked off as the Eagles hosted SWAC rival, the Snow College Badgers. The game started with fast paced action which continued throughout the half.

As both teams battled for possession of the score board, the intensity level on the court continued to rise.

By the half, the Badgers lead the Eagles by two, 36-34.

The second half proved to be disasterous for the Eagles as they were outscored by 20 points which lead to their 95-73 loss to the Badgers.

During the match up, several CEU players stepped up and played strong for their team. One such player was Anthony Grant who lead the team in scoring with 21 points. Grant shot 5-10 from the three-point line and pulled down five rebounds.

Also playing well for the Eagles was Derrick Turner who scored 17 points. Along with his shooting effort, Turners also pulled down eight rebounds, dished out four assists and blocked four shots.

GJ Macon also had a successful game as he posted 10 points and pulled down eight rebounds.

Following the SWAC loss, the Eagles headed out on the road to travel to Wyoming to take on the Spartans in a non-conference game.

The CEU team had better success against the Spartans as they dominated the court in the first half. The Eagles entered the locker room leading the Spartans, 59-45.

The Eagle squad continued to dominate the court as they posted a 61 percent field goal percentage during the game. By the end of match up, the Eagles found themselves victorious by the final, 106-88.

Once again, Grant took control of the game as he scored 30 points against the Spartans. The first year Eagle also pulled down five boards, handed out five assists, blocked one shot and took away four balls from the Wyoming ball club.

Mindaugas Katelynas followed in scoring with 20 points. Katelynas also pulled down 10 rebounds during the Eagles victorious game.

Rounding out the Eagles double figure scoring roster was PJ Stinnett with 17 points, Turner with 12 and Macon with 10 points.

The Eagles will continue competition this week as the team travels to St. George Friday to take on the Dixie Rebels.

The team will then turn around and travel to Nevada to take on the Southern Nevada Coyotes on Saturday.

The Eagles currently stand at 16-8 overall for the season.
