PRICE - Our loving mother, grandmother and sister, Rose Salazar Flores Jacquez, age 89, passed away Feb. 23, 2012 at Castleview Hospital.
She was born May 22, 1922 in Coyote, NM to Merced and Eleana Archuleta Salazar.
Rose Married Rosario "Ross" Flores, Oct. 26, 1942 in Lumberton, NM and on July 31, 1960, at 38 years of age she was left a widow raising three teenagers.
A couple of her earliest accomplishments was learning to drive a vehicle and receiving her GED. On May 19, 1973, she married Isidor P. Jacquez in Price and they were blessed with 37 years of constant companionship before his passing on Nov. 28, 2010.
In 1965, Rose began working for the Community Action Program and later retired from the Rehabilitation services in 1987 where she was honored for many prestigious awards. In 1976, she was awarded the Golden Key Award for the Outstanding Worker in Utah. In 1987 she was honored as the Female Employee of the Year Award From the Sate of Utah Rehabilitation Services.
Rose enjoyed dancing and being with friends and family. Some of her greatest memories were the trips she shared with Isidor to Hawaii, Alaska and Mexico. These trips were gifts given to her by her son for receiving the Golden Key Award.
Rose was an active member of Notre Dame Catholic Church where she was a member of the Altar Society and the Funeral Committee for over 25 years. She was a foster parent for a number of years and also translated for the local court system when she was called upon. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Rose is survived by her children, Ed (Cathy) Flores, Flagstaff, Ariz; Viola Valdez, Price; Helen Gallegos, Johnny (Candy) Jacquez, Helper; Joe (Teresa) Jacquez, Ogden; Lilly (Rick) Duran, Durango, Colo; Irene (Lloyd) Cruz, Arboles, Colo; three brothers and one sister, Joe Salazar, Price, Ramona Valdez, Price; John Salazar, Price; Horace (Terri) Salazar, Los Angeles, Calif; grandchildren, Danielle Lopez, Todd Flores, Michael Flores, Chriselyn Valdez, David Gallegos, Troy Gallegos; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her parents, husband, Rosario "Ross" and Isidor; grandsons, Albert Valdez and Victor Jacquez; son-in-law, Charlie Gallegos; and nine brothers and sisters.
Funeral Mass, Friday, March 2, 2012, 11 a.m., Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church. Vigil service, Thursday evening 7 p.m., at the church in Price. Family will be at the church Thursday and Friday one hour prior to services. Committal service, Price City Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home of Price where friends are welcome daily and may share memories of Rose at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net.
