For Mike Stream life has been a struggle, and it has been no different for his business.

When Stream was young he and his brothers were placed in foster care. With that he learned to take control of his life and any situation he found himself in. Later he served a mission for his church in North Carolina and during that time he was face with difficult situations that he learned to work through.

While Stream has yet to earn a degree (he is going to school working toward a degree in business) he has used his life experiences to help him run his business.

Presently he owns a company which offers vehicle detailing, headlight restoration, and rock chip repair. Since he offers various services he has been able to generate a good clientele base.

His work toward generating new customers and promoting his services has been difficult. But he is a hard worker and credits a lot of his success to the education he has received toward keeping his business going.

Stream feels that being an integral part of the community is an important key to keeping a business going. He volunteers both time and donations to the community in order to uphold a good reputation and to promote his business.

"If I am stingy with what the community has helped me achieve, how can I expect to grow my business?" he asks. Then he adds, "If I fail my community, then my community will fail me."

His experience with SBDC was positive and he attributes much of his success to the program.

"As a young entrepreneur, the first experience I had with the SBDC was word of mouth by a friend," he explained. "I was inexperienced in what I needed to do to legally start my business. I had a plan with no idea of how to accomplish it. The SBDC helped point me in the right direction. They made me feel important. With their continued guidance and counsel, their advice has helped me get to where I am today. If it was not for the SBDC I would be another business shutting down in a year. Thanks to their help, my business will be around for a very long time."

On Jan. 27 at Rural Day at the legislature Stream was honored as Price Small Business Development Center Client of the Year.
