The Carbon High School Drama Department will perform its winter production of the classic Noel Coward comedy, "Blithe Spirit" Feb. 22-24 on the school stage.

Curtain time each evening is 7:30 p.m.

Written in 1941, the play follows Charles Condomine's efforts to send the spirit of his deceased wife Elvira back where she came from. Christian Johnston playes the leading role with Leandra Arroyo as his wife, Ruth. Kevin Mastin and John Erickson double as Dr. Bradman, and his wife Mrs. Bradman is played by Suni Gigliotti. Madame Arcotti is played by Alesha Anderson, and the intruding spirit Elvira is by Brynne Hunt. Elizabeth Anvic rounds out the cast as Edith.

Noel Coward wrote the play at a time when the world was coming apart. Director R. James Scott says it was an escape from the reality of Hitler's Germany and Japan's race across the Pacific.

Wars since then have come and gone, but this play is still being performed and is likely to continue to be produced for many years to come, Scott says.
