With one game seperating them from advancing to the quarterfinals at Dixie State College next week, the Carbon High boys and girls basketball teams still have a lot of work to do.

For the girls, a first place finish in Region 12 was a great accomplishment. But now they want show what they are made of in the state tournament.

The Lady Dinos will face Ogden High tomorrow night with a chance to advance to the quarterfinals starting next Thursday at Dixie State College.

The Lady Dinos will not take things lightly with seven seniors on the squad wanting to go out on a high note.

For the Carbon High boys, a shot at advancing to Dixie State would be the culimination of a season with plenty of highs and lows.

The battle-tested Dino squad survived a tough region schedule to finish third in Region 12. The third place finish now will see the Carbon Boys travel to Ogden to play Ben Lomond on Saturday at 7 p.m.

The Dinos took the first meeting 44-42 in double overtime back on Dec. 10.

Head coach Jeff Cisneros said Ben Lomond will provide a tough defensive test for the Dinos, who will be without junior forward Derek Young. Young suffered a broken arm during the JV game last Friday and will be out for the rest of the season.

Cisneros said the rest of the team will have to step up and work together to overcome adversity.

"They all need to step up now because it's going to be tough playing on the road," he said.

Cisneros noted that Ben Lomond features one of the top ranked defensive teams in 3A, allowing only 44.76 points per game.

"Our goal all year long has been to get to the state tournament," he said. "We've lost some close games and we've won some close games this year.

"The boys are as ready as they'll ever be," he said.
