Klondike Derby 2012

About 100 Scouts and leaders from all over Carbon County recently completed their annual Klondike Derby expedition to the Scofield area to spend a night and a day camping and playing in the snow. There is something about the adventure of camping in winter - perhaps it's the idea that you could freeze to death if you are not prepared. The leaders took the challenge to train the scouts and evaluate their performance in temperatures that plunged to 11 below zero at night. Aside from sledding and snowshoeing, the scouts also had to learn the challenges of cooking on camp stoves and open fires outdoors. All who took part said they had fun. The purpose of the event is to instill patriotism, wholesome values and build character in young men.
