'Soles for Souls'
Ninth graders Alyssa Armstrong and Mercedez Allred are surrounded by more than 800 pairs of shoes they have collected so far in their FCCLA project at Helper Junior High School. The girls had heard that millions of people die each year from diseases that come from going without shoes. They chose to help Soles for Souls, a charity that distributes shoes to the needy worldwide.
Donations of serviceable shoes will be accepted at drop-off points at R&A Market, Workman's Market, Helper City Hall and Library and the Shell service station in Helper. They stress that although all the collection points are in Helper, this is a county-wide effort.
