Before the season began Carbon High head coach Jeff Cisneros said he anticipated every Region 12 game would be a closely contested battle. His words have proven to be quite prophetic, but for the Carbon Dinos the results have not always gone in their favor.

In their fourth down to the wire game in team's last five games, the Carbon Dinos were again left with an empty feeling as they fell to the Juab Wasps 62-59 on Friday night at the CHS gymnasium.

This loss came just three days after Carbon gave Spanish Fork a taste of defeat 61-60 in the final seconds of the game.

Carbon trailed Juab 26-21 at halftime, struggling at times to deal with the size of Juab's front line players in the paint.

Down by eight in the third quarter, Cisneros called a timeout, openly yelling at his players to communicate with each other on defense.

That seemed to give Carbon a boost as they cut the lead down to 42-39 heading into the fourth quarter.

With 2:25 left in the game, Carbon's Jordan Blanc made a basket and got a foul that cut Juab's lead to one, 49-48. But moments later Carbon found themselves losing ground as Juab started to pull away. After two free throws put Juab up 56-49, Carbon began to make one final run. Derek Young scored on a shot down low but Juab answered back with basket. Carbon's Clay Finkbiner hit a three with 46.1 seconds left to cut the lead to 58-54. Juab added two more free throws but Young converted on another basket in the paint and Finkbiner added another three to bring the Juab lead down to one with 12.8 seconds left.

Juab added another two free throws to put the lead at three with 10.5 seconds left. Dakota Cisneros missed a three with a defender right in his face and Finkbiner missed a contested three point attempt in the closing seconds as the buzzer sounded.

Young, who finished with a team-high 18 points and eight rebounds, said the feeling of losing another close game hurts for awhile.

"It's an intense feeling having to lose like this. It just sucks," Young said after the game.

Finkbiner added 12 points on four three pointers for the Dinos and Dakota Cisneros had six points, six assists and six rebounds.

Carbon (10-8, 3-5 Region 12) will not have long to lament after another close loss as they will travel to North Sanpete for a game tonight at 7 p.m.

Carbon currently sits in a tie for fourth place at 3-5 in Region 12 with North Sanpete.

The team will need to come out and put the close losses behind them and focus on trying to win their final two games, Young said.

"We know we have to win these last two games," he said. "We need to work hard and keep giving a lot of effort on offense and defense."
