USU Eastern's Art Department will host the Eighth Annual High School Art Competition at Gallery East on the Price campus. The competition is an annual opportunity for Utah's high-school-age students to create and exhibit art work that will be judged against their peers.

Typical entries in the competition include ceramics, pottery, jewelry and traditional two-dimensional work such as painting, drawing, and photography. Gallery director Noel Carmack says that the art created by participating students is as noteworthy as ever. "We are delighted to see such good work coming from students all around the state. It shows that their teachers and parents are continuing to encourage young people in the visual arts."

Carmack noted that students from schools as far away as Tooele, Taylorsville, Logan, Ogden, and Saint George are participating again this year.

All artists of high school age (14-18 years old) are eligible to participate, including public high school students, home-schooled students and students attending private schools. Entrants are not required to be enrolled in an art class to participate. The deadline for hand-delivered entries is Tuesday, Jan.10 at Gallery East.

USU Eastern's Eighth Annual High School Art Competition will be exhibited from Jan.17 through Feb. 2. An opening reception and awards ceremony will be held Jan. 20 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Participating students and parents are invited. The public is welcome.

If you have any questions, contact Noel Carmack at 435-613-5241 or by email at noel.carmack@usu.edu.
