USU Eastern women split last games of 2011
The USU Eastern womens basketball team played back-to-back games on Thursday and Friday with the outcomes of each game being almost a mirror opposite of each other.
The Lady Eagles faced off against the East Idaho All-Stars for two games before heading into their last break before Scenic West Athletic Conference play begins Jan. 6.
In the first game, the Lady Eagles jumped out to a six point lead over the All-Stars at halftime 38-32, thanks to a 65 percent shooting effort.
But the second half was a different story as the All-Stars began putting together a run while Eastern was unable to convert on a number of possessions. The All-Stars outscored Eastern 40-26 in the second half en route to a 72-62 win. Eastern shot just 25 percent (6-of-24) in the second half and finished with 29 turnovers in the game.
In their second game on Friday, it was the All-Stars who sprinted out to a seven point lead at the half, 32-25. But in the second half, Eastern began to establish a rhythm offensively shooting 56 percent (18-of-32) and outscoring the All-Stars 47-30 on their way to a 72-62 win to finish with a split.
Eastern's margin of victory might have been bigger if not for their poor performance at the free-throw line (12-of-26).
Priscila Santos led Eastern averaging 30 points per game. Hailee Perry and Abbi Kay each had notable performances.
The Eastern women (8-7) will begin conference play on Friday, Jan. 6 against Colorado Northwestern Community College at the B-DAC at 5:30 p.m.
