Dinos edge past Uintah
Carbon High boys team finishes 2011 with victory, heads into new year on high note
No need for any New Year's resolutions here.
If the Carbon High boys basketball team can keep up the effort they displayed in the first half of the 2011-12 season, then things may be looking up for the team in the second half of the season.
The team finished up the 2011 portion of the season with a 57-49 win over Uintah on Wednesday night.
The two teams played a close game through the first half with the Dinos leading 32-25.
By the end of the third quarter, Uintah cut down the Carbon lead to just one point.
Carbon High head coach Jeff Cisneros has asked his team to focus on playing a complete game every time they hit the hardwood.
This time, the Dinos did not falter. They made enough plays down the stretch as they outscored Uintah 15-9 in the final quarter, holding onto their small lead before walking away with the victory.
Juniors Dakota Cisneros and Jordan Blanc led a balanced Dino attack with 11 points each. Senior Clay Finkbiner finished with 10 points.
Matthew Cushing led all Uintah (3-6) players with 24 points.
Carbon (6-2) heads into the new year and Region 12 play right in the thick of things. The Dinos currently sit in second place behind Payson at 7-2. Following the Dinos are North Sanpete (4-5), Spanish Fork (3-5), Delta (2-5) and Juab (1-4).
The Dinos will take a break before playing their first game of 2012 on Jan. 4 on the road against Grand.
