A 13-year old Carbonville boy was being treated Tuesday for serious injuries he suffered in an auto-pedestrian collision Monday at about 3 p.m. in Price at the intersection of Main Street and 600 East.

The victim, Stephen Michael Howell, was reported to be doing "better than expected" Tuesday afternoon by his mother, Michelle Howell. Stephen, who suffered internal and back injuries, was under 48-hour observation at Primary Children's Medical Center in Salt Lake, she said.

Ms. Howell said her son may have a long time to recover, but that he has had "an amazing support team," beginning with the emergency responders who were first at the scene and continuing through to the medical staff at Primary Children's. She expressed thanks to all of them.

According to Price Police Capt. Kevin Drolc, a preliminary investigation indicates the boy was walking southbound across Main Street when a westbound car driven by 29-year-old William Kirby of Carbonville struck him. An eastbound car on Main Street had already stopped at the corner to allow the boy to cross.

There were no citations or charges issued against the driver as of Wednesday because the case is still under investigation, the captain said.
