Mae Sampinos-Palermo, age 80, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2011 in New Jersey.
Mae was born May 4, 1931 in Price to Sam J. and Litsa Amplianiti Sampinos. She grew up in Price and graduated from Carbon High School. Following graduation, she moved to New York and attended St. Basil's Teaching Academy, where she received her teaching certification. Mae then attended Monmouth College, graduating with a bachelor degree. She spent her working years teaching at Bradley Beach Elementary School.
She married Michael Palermo in Grand Junction, Colo. They spent time in New Jersey and Florida, before he passed away in 1990.
Mae was a strong, independent lady with a heart of gold. She enjoyed her trips to Atlantic City, Wednesday morning coffee with "the girls", playing scrabble, cooking and visiting her family in Utah and Colorado.
Survivors include her sisters, Bessie Pappas, Madeleine "Maggie" (Art) Nickas and Penny Sampinos, all of Price; nieces and nephews, Dyann (Mike) Blackburn, Gus Pappas, Sam Pappas, Louie Nickas, Lisa (Dwight) Rasmussen, Mike Nickas, George Nickas, Sam Sampinos, Lisa Moore, and Phil (Heather) Sampinos; 10 great nieces and nephews; one great-great niece and two great-great nephews.
A visitation will be held Thursday, Dec. 22, 2011 from 10 a.m. - 12:00 noon at Mitchell Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 1 p.m at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church in Price. Burial, Price City Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home of Price where friends are welcome daily and may share memories of Mae at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net.
