Utah statute requires children to obtain immunizations prior to entering school

Southeastern Utah Health District nurse Dottie Flemett gives Austin Robert Conner an immunization shot as mother Timberly Vanprooyen and sister Cassie Conner attempt to calm him down. Immunizations protect children from contacting diseases like measles and mumps. Utah law specifies that all children entering kindergarten must be up to date on immunizations. Recently, officials expanded the guideline to require a varicella or chicken pox vaccine and two hepatitis A doses before children enter public schools. For a list of required immunizations, residents may contact the health department at 637-3671. The public health department offers immunization clinics daily and charges parents or guardians a nominal fee for the service.
