PROVO/PRICE -Velma Black Frandsen, 92, passed away Nov. 23, 2011. She was born May 2, 1919 in Ferron, the fifth child of William Levi and Clyda Jerusha Barton Black. Velma married Duane Frandsen in the Logan LDS Temple on Aug. 8, 1941. They were the parents of four children.

Velma earned her teaching certificate from Brigham Young University, then returned to Emery County to teach elementary school. It was then she met her future husband, Duane Frandsen. After Duane's World War II government service, they made their home in Price, where their children were born and raised. Velma was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and liked giving and receiving hugs. She enjoyed her family and friends, eating out and watching BYU basketball.

Velma was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She supported her husband in his many callings. She served in the Primary, Mutual and Relief Society auxiliaries. A highlight in her service came when she was called as the adviser to the Lambda Delta Sigma Sorority at the College of Eastern Utah and later as an adviser on the national board. After she and Duane served a mission to the Mesa, Arizona LDS Temple Visitors Center, they made their home in Provo.

Velma is survived by her children, Wayne (Penny), Woodland Hills; Jerry, Moab; Camille (Michael) Jensen, Price; Clyda (Michael) Harrison, Orem; a daughter-in-law, Pat Frandsen, Price; 18 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a sister, Eldona Ralphs; and four brothers, Glenn, Ronald, Therald and Merrill.

The family is grateful to Andrea Morris, Belinda Han and their staff at Our House of Orem and Brigitte Hansen and others from Access Home Care and Hospice for their kindness and care they gave to our mother.

A viewing was held Monday, Nov. 28 from 6 to 8 p.m. At the Berg Mortuary in Provo. The funeral will be held Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2011 at 11 a.m. At the Riverwoods LDS Ward Chapel in Provo with a viewing preceding it at 10 a.m. Graveside service will be at 3:30 p.m. At the Price City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made to the LDS missionary fund or the USU Eastern Duane A and Velma B Frandsen Scholarship Fund.
