Riding and roping along the road to success
The Carbon Rodeo Club traveled to St. George over the past three weekends to compete in the "Dixie Six" High School Rodeos. They were competing against other high school kids ranging from 9 - 12 grades from all over the state of Utah.
Competing and placing at the Dixie Six rodeos were Garrett Gibson, who took third and fifth place in Bull Riding. Dalton Rudman took fifth place in Bull Riding.
Rowdy Houskeeper took fourth place in Bull Riding. Zachary Jensen took 16th place in Tie Down Roping and ninth place in Team Roping.
Cali Moon took 13th in Breakaway Roping. She also took two fith place wins in Pole Bending. JoeCee Heil placed 22nd in Goat Tying and she also competes in Breakaway for the club.
Many of the competitors from the Carbon Club qualified this fall for the State Rodeo finals to be held in Heber City on June 6-9, 2012.
The spring rodeos will give them another opportunity to qualify and to earn more points to carry to state.
In order to qualify for the State finals, the contestant must place in the top 10 in their event. Some events have upward of 100 contestants.
The spring rodeo season will begin again the second weekend in April and continue through June. Carbon will host their High School Rodeo April 13, 2012 at the Carbon County Fairgrounds.
The Junior High Rodeo season will begin this spring as they will head to St. George to compete on March 2-3.
