Recognition for a lifetime of service

It is an emotional moment for Hazel McMullin of Cleveland when she learns that Sharon Wright, president-elect of the Utah State Quilt Guild and President Crystal North were not in Price to see a trunk show of her work. They had come from the Wasatch Front to present her with a tribute for her many years of service to the art of quilting and to her community. McMullin, who learned how to sew as a youngster to help her family through the Depression and World War II, has been using her talents with fabic to help others for decades. For more than 40 years, she taught 4H students how to sew, and earned state honors for that service. She also owned and operated the Fun Fabrics store in Huntington for more than 17 years. She helped organize the Huntington Quilt Guild and taught classes in Price and Huntington. McMullin has made multiple wall hangings for county and community displays. She also made a special quilt to represent all the living graduates from North Emery High School. In recent years she has become involved with a national organization called Quilts of Valor. Its goal is to make a quilt for every wounded soldier that comes home from the mid-east conflicts. She has also sewn hundreds of hygiene kits, leper bandages, dresses, quilts and school bags for the LDS Church Humanitarian Service Center.
