Sunnyside incumbents retain council positions by narrow margin
By C.J. MCMANUS Sun Advocate reporter By the narrowest of margins, all three Sunnyside city council incumbents have been re-elected to another term at city hall. Kelly Maynes, Shari Madrid and Froylan Garcia all maintained their positions following Tuesday's election with Garcia winning his seat over challenger Tyler Grundy by a single vote.
With 51 total voters showing up Tuesday, Garcia received 33 votes, Grundy 32. Sunnyside officials elected to use paper ballots and have their residents vote at Sunnyside City Hall, rather than use the county's electronic polling equipment at the East Carbon Senior Center. Check out Thursday's print edition of the Sun Advocate for a full report on the "old school" election and reaction to razor sharp results. Sunnyside ballots were reported by city recorder Polly Sanderson as follows:
Kelly Maynes 41 votes
Shari Madrid 35 votes
Froylan Garcia 33 votes
Tyler Grundy 32 votes
Jennifer Carter 12 votes
