To keep their record unblemished, all the Helper Junior High Lady Rams had to do was win.

And win they did.

The Lady Rams finished off their perfect season with a tournament win with fellow teams in the Castle Valley Athletic Association, including Pinnacle Canyon Academy, Mont Harmon Junior High, San Rafael Junior High, Canyon View Junior High and Green River Junior High.

HJH volleyball head coach Barbara Scoggins said the team completed their regular season with a 10-0 record. The record can be pushed to 11-0 when a victory in an exhibition game against Roosevelt is counted.

Three more wins coming in the CVAA tournament last week make it an even 14-0 record.

Scoggins said this year's team was poised to have a good year after a strong finish in 2010.

"Last year we had a really good team and this year we did really well," said Scoggins, who is in her fifth year coaching the Lady Rams.

Scoggins said the success for the team came from the girls' hard work and their ability to communicate with teammates while out on the court.

"The team was successful because they focused on being a team instead of working individually," she said.

Before the final tournament, Scoggins said she noticed the team was anxious and a little scared going in.

"We just told them that it's just another game and they should worry about having fun while playing," she explained.

Mont Harmon finished the tournament in second place. Scoggins said the competition at the tournament was very competitive and is a sign that there are many talented volleyball players in the area.

While the perfect finish to the season was a wonderful accomplishment, Scoggins said the team's improvement in many areas over the course of the season would have been good enough for her.

"Win or lose, I'm proud of everyone on the team," she said.

"I was very happy for them (finishing the perfect season). They really deserved it."
