United Way of Eastern Utah 2011-2012
The United Way of Eastern Utah has been located in Price for 30 years, serving Carbon, Emery, Grand, San Juan, Duchesne, Uintah and Daggett counties. The United Way of Eastern Utah consists of 2 part-time employees, Bill Maikranz, Executive Director, Carole Wright, Campaign Coordinator, an AmeriCorps Vista employee Keera Allred and an Easter Seal volunteer, Tera Nichols and ran by a dedicated 8 member volunteer board of directors.
United Way of Eastern Utah is working to advance the common good and create opportunities for a better life by focusing on Education, Income and Health. We are really looking forward to an exciting time in the newest phase of United Way of Eastern Utah's history. We are working with our partner agencies to improve our community. We are VERY APPRECIATIVE of the continued support including financial, volunteer, and in kind donations. We can never say thank you enough, but hope they know the real difference they have made in their community.
Many of our communities have an increased need for services while noting a decrease in annual giving as sited in a recent Associated Press article stating donations across the United States are realizing the worst decline in twenty years. The funds which are raised locally stay local; the majority of our administrative and overhead expenditures are met by our Cornerstone Partners. "Cornerstone Partnership's", which include businesses and individuals, are imperative to the foundation of your local United Way's operation." We are proud of our partner agencies and the dedication they have to our community.
United Way's Board Chair - Marvin Mutz said recently that "if there is one thing we are known for, it's mobilizing a community in times of need as in the case of Angel Tree, the Information and Referral services for volunteer support and our Day of Caring. This year's Annual Day of Caring was held on September 10th. We had the generous support of 203 volunteers who logged 682 hours and we completed 14 projects in Carbon and Emery County which included the clean-up of several homes and Wood Hill. We are hosting our annual Angel Tree Program, now in its 28th year". Angel Tree applications are being accepted thru close of business Nov. 10th 2011. Last year the program served nearly 900 children. United Way partnered with Salons for Survival this year to support October Breast Cancer Awareness month to assist in what's raised her stays here. We also had two fundraisers held on United Way's behalf which included the 1st Annual Pinnacle Nursing Golf Classic and the Winger's Restaurant Desert for A Cause. We will also be having a fundraiser with Cold Stone Creamery coming up in November.
United Way currently hosts six AmeriCorps Vistas in the Eastern Utah region for the purpose of managing volunteer information and service projects. Bill Maikranz, the United Way Executive Director stated, "We have the opportunity to be more involved in our community and have made tremendous effort to do so. In doing that we see the needs and with the community's support through service and contributions a difference can be made to create opportunities for a better life. United Way is the leader of giving, advocating, and connecting volunteers in Eastern Utah. If you would like to participate by being an Angel Tree sponsor, a cornerstone partner, or a community investor please contact United Way of Eastern Utah at 435.637.8911 or come into our office located at 67 E Main St in Price and meet our staff and volunteers".
