Helper will consider redevelopment district for city

The Helper City Council will consider establishing one or more redevelopment districts in the city as part of its overall strategy for community planning.

The decision came after a presentation by county economic development director Delynn Fielding at the last council meeting.

RDAs are specially designated areas in cities or counties that earmark property taxes for specific improvements. The money in the fund accumulates as the result of increased property values in the district. Only the increases are committed to the district, with other taxing entities such as the school district receiving the same tax revenues as before. They get increased revenue when the RDA expires.
