USU Eastern announces new men's basketball coach
USU Eastern has named Brian Edelstein as the interim head coach for the men's basketball team for the 2011-12 season.
Edelstein takes over the Golden Eagles squad after the sudden passing of head coach Brad Barton on Oct. 4.
Before being named as the interim head coach, Edelstein was serving as an assistant on Barton's coaching staff.
"I am humbled and gratified for the confidence the adminstration has shown by my selection as interim head coach of such a successful basketball program," Edelstein said in a press release from the college. "This is not how I envisioned becoming a head coach."
Edelstein said Barton had a positive impact on him, the team, the program at the college.
"It is my intention to carry on in Coach B's footsteps and provide stability and leadership for the great young men in this program," he said. "I look forward to the opportunity and the challenge."
Edelstein came to Price from the University of South Carolina. It was also announced that he will be assisted for the season by athletic director Dave Paur and assistant coach Dave Hammer.
Paur has served as the coach of the women's basketball team since 1989 and Hammer previously served as an assistant on the women's basketball team at Westminister College in Salt Lake City.
