Dan Edward Martin passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2011 as a result of medical complications. Dan was born on Jan. 28, 1928 in Consumers.

He was preceded in death by his parents Eddy and Gladys Martin, brother Jerry Martin, sisters Margaret (John) Perla, and Dorothy (Jerry) Booth.

Dan is survived by his sister Laura (Sister Gladys Marie) Martin, his wife Kathy (Milano) Martin, daughter Colleen (Ray) Burdick, son Michael Martin, three stepchildren Suzie (Shane) Spensko, Tony C. Kokal IV, and Paul Kokal.

Dan had six grandchildren Lisa (Rick) Breitenstein, Cory (Stephanie) Burdick, Shad (Alishia) Martin, Micah (Kyle) Kulow, Lindsey Spensko, Steven Spensko, Victoria Kokal, and Dominick Kokal. He has five great grandchildren, Erika, Brock, Ray, Cole and Makenna.

Dan retired from the Utah Railway as Superintendent and later returned to school to further his education at the College of Eastern Utah. This led him into active work as a Drug and Alcohol Addictions Specialist. Dan was well known for his many successful addiction interventions. His greatest joy was being able to help people find their way to sobriety. He was never ashamed to share his own story of his struggles with alcohol addiction and how he found his way to recovery. He never lost sight of the power and strength of the Lord to help him stay sober for more than 25 years.

Dan made many valuable contributions to the world, and he will be missed greatly by many people who knew and loved him. Dan was indeed an amazing person.

To honor his memory, there will be a Prayer Vigil and Rosary was held on Friday, Oct. 7, 2011 which will be immediately followed by a memorial service at the Walker Mortuary, 187 South Main, Spanish Fork. Funeral services were held for Dan on Monday, Oct. 10, 2011, at the San Andres Catholic Church located at 315 E. 100 N., in Payson. Dan will be buried at the Spanish Fork Cemetery located at 420 S. 400 E., Spanish Fork.

Everyone attending the service is invited back to the church to attend a funeral dinner at the San Andres Church following his burial.
