CARBONVILLE - Ellen Myrle Bentley Bates, 78, courageously returned to Heaven on Oct. 5, 2011, where she was reunited with her husband, James William Bates.

Ellen was born on Nov. 16, 1932 in her home in Price to Elba and Vivian Hamilton Bentley. She is the ninth of 11 children.

On Sept. 27, 1952, Ellen married Jim in Spring Glen. Their marriage was later solemnized on June 30, 1962, in the St. George Temple.

As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Ellen served in many callings, but her favorites were those she shared with her husband, Jim. Together they served as missionaries in the Carbon North Stake and Charlotte, North Carolina Mission, and temple workers in the Manti Temple. Ellen was an avid genealogist and a member of The Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.

She loved being a wife, mother and homemaker. Her family members treasured her quilts, crocheted baby blankets, dolls, handmade chocolate turtles, and other domestic creations. Her home was a pleasant and happy place for family to gather.

The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff at Parkdale Care Center.

Ellen is survived by her six children, Patty Petersen, Meridian, Idaho; Bill (Alisa) Bates, Wellington; Carol (David) Daniels, Willard; Kelley (Kerry) Jensen, Price; Leslie (Lyle) Nielson, Blanding; Steven (Ann) Bates, West Point; 37 grandchildren and 64 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Kenneth and Jerry Bentley and one sister, Colleen Adair.

She was preceded in death by her parents, loving husband, James William Bates; sweet granddaughter, Emily Bates; great-grandson, Kyler Waters; sisters, Vida Keele, Evelyn Rhodes, June Johnson; and her brothers, Bud, David, Charles and Ray Bentley

Funeral service, Monday, Oct. 10, 2011, 10 a.m., Spring Glen LDS Chapel, (1985 W. 4000 N.) Spring Glen. Family and friends are welcome to attend a viewing on Sunday evening 6 - 8 p.m., Mitchell Funeral Home in Price and Monday one hour prior to services at the church. Interment, Wellington City Cemetery. Friends and family are welcome to share memories of Ellen at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net.
