Sun Advocate associate editor

A coal truck lies on its side with its cargo spilled on a lawn in Scofield Tuesday. The truck rolled at the right-angle turn on SR 96 just across from the Stop 'n' Shop convenience store shortly before 9 a.m.

The female driver was wearing a seat belt and had only minor injuries but was taken to Castleview Hospital as a precaution, according to Highway Patrol Trooper Travis Barrett.

The trooper said speed was apparently a factor in the incident.

Although the truck and trailer blocked most of both lanes, traffic was able to squeeze by on a shoulder one vehicle at a time.
