Cleanup continues in Willow Creek

Workers in hazmat suits were busy Friday collecting oil-coated streamside plants from the banks of Willow Creek. Remediation efforts to remove spilled crude oil continue in the wake of a tragic accident in the canyon Sept. 15. A tractor-trailer hauling two tanks of the thick oil left the road and plunged over the steep banks of the creek, killing the driver and exploding in flame. Leakage from the ruptured tanks entered the stream. Globs of the congealed oil were contained by booms across the stream, but much of it drifted into clefts in the rocks and on vegetation. Work has been complicated by the rugged terrain. Willow Creek is a tributary of the Price River.
