The USU Eastern's volleyball squad has started off a little slower this season than the coaches would like.

But in their third preseason tournament of the year, the team finally began to find their stride and went 3-3 down in Arizona. Those wins were the first of the season for the Lady Eagles.

USU Eastern beat Scottsdale 25-23 and 25-21 for their first victory. They lost to Glendale and Phoenix College. Then the team bounced back with a win over Pima 25-22 and 25-10. They followed it up with a victory over South Mountain 20-25, 26-24 and 15-10 for their second victory. They finished with a 22-25, 25-16, 11-15 loss to Chandler.

Even though they haven't had much success posting wins in their previous tournament, Co-Coach Chelsey Warburton feels like they had a couple of good matches that have helped the girls see they will be able to hold their own in conference play.

In tournament up in Twins Falls, Idaho, USU-Eastern took Salt Lake Community College to four sets before finally dropping the match. When the team was at the Salt Lake Tournament they were actually up two sets before faltering in set three against Northern Idaho. NIC went on to take the match in five sets.

"We aren't where I hoped we would be yet," said Warburton. "They are off and on. They play good and then seem to have problems. But we did get better in this tournament and its coming a little at a time. Everyone is actually playing good, just not at the same time."

USU Eastern will have two matches at home this weekend to give everyone a chance to meet the team. Friday night will feature a Alumni game at 7 p.m. at the B-DAC. On Saturday a team of All-Stars will roll into town. That game will be at 1 p.m. It was previously listed as a 3 p.m. start time.
