The Carbon High boys golf team had their home match on Thursday, Sept. 8 at the Carbon Country Club Course. They were able to use the home course advantage to pick up some shots on Delta and Juab to improve their region standing, however they did not gain ground on North Sanpete. Spanish Fork won the match with a 303, North Sanpete finished second at 321 Carbon third at 324, Juab fourth 331, Payson fifth at 334 and Delta at 342.
"We came into the match with the idea to pick up shots on the fourth and fifth spot in the region and we wanted to take second. We did pick up shots on fourth and fifth in the region however we took third place missing second only by three shots," said coach Tom King.
Derek Weston and Blake Bean both shot 80 to lead the Dino varsity effort. Nick Rukavina ended with an 81, Clay Finkbiner 83, Robbi Etzel 85 and Dakota Andrews 88 for the varsity.
The JV team played very well too as they took second only losing to Spanish Fork. The Dons shot a 314 and Carbon finished at 342. Kody Henrie was the stand out JV player with 82,.Derek Young followed with an 86, Freston Smith and Dillen Ward 87, Dallas Anselmo 95 and Cody Riley 96. Bryce Blackburn played as an individual and shot a very good score of 85.
"It sure was nice putting up our best team score of the season. We have not been close to the 320's yet this year, but we were to put our best score up here at home with a 324," King added.
Next week Carbon is at Nephi, Juab's home course. Only 12 strokes behind Delta this is a meet Carbon must beat the Rabbits again. It may be hard to gain ground on Juab at their home course, but they will try.
