Carbon County Sheriff James Cordova presents checks for $1000 each to Hollie Grange and Madison Christiansen last week to help finance their college educations. Also receiving scholarships, but not pictured are Mariah Pollock and Tanner Fausett. The four scholarships are the most the county has been awarded in a single year by the Utah Sheriff's Assocation in some time. All are recent graduates of Carbon High School. Grange is planning on a course of study in business at USU Eastern and then on to the University of Utah. Christiansen plans to go to USU Eastern with a major in Criminal Justice. Pollock is attending the University of Utah this fall with a major in Criminology and a minor in Sociology. Fausett plans on attending USU Eastern with a major in Criminology. The money for the awards comes from law enforcement personnel who belong to the association and from private citizens who join the association each year.

"This shows that when citizens join the association the money comes back to their communities," said Cordova after he presented the checks. "We we fortunate to get four this year."

Carbon received more scholarships from the association than any other county except Salt Lake and Utah, which also garnered four.
