PRICE/GRAND JUNCTION, Colo - Gilbert Yelonek passed away in Grand Junction Colo. on Aug. 23, 2011 after a courageous five month battle with cancer.
He was born in Rock Springs, Wyo., on May 31, 1941 to Joe and Mary Yelonek. After living in Wyoming for a few years, Gilbert relocated with his family to Dragerton. He graduated from Carbon High School in 1959. Gilbert married Roxie Mcdonald in May of 1961 and they had two children together. They were later divorced. Married Laurie Kos in July of 1986 later divorced.
Gilbert worked for Kaiser Steel for over twenty years prior to his retirement. Over the years, he also spent some time working for Price City and Castleview Hospital.
Gilbert was an avid outdoors man. He enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing and was the happiest when he was outdoors. His other passion was baseball. His favorite team was the New York Yankees. He also looked forward to attending the annual junior college baseball tournament in Grand Junction each year.
Gilbert is survived by his partner of seven years, Juanita Budo; sister, Virginia Amendola, California; children Scott (Terri) Yelonek, Price, Becky (William) Johnson, Wyoming. Grandchildren, Jasmine Jones, Jason Johnson and Alexis Yelonek. Niece, Laura Nelson. Gilbert had six great grand children.
Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents. At his request he was cremated, his ashes will be scattered at his favorite hunting site by his children on a later date.
