Still searching for that elusive first win of the season, the Carbon High girls soccer team came up empty handed in there last two games. But even in the loss to 5A Granger they found some new confidence.

Last Thursday, Uintah dominated the game against Carbon in an 8-0 loss. On Monday, a short-handed Lady Dinos team dropped their second to last preseason contest 5-0 to Granger.

As the bus pulled out of Carbon County on Monday, there were only 15 girls dressed and ready. Several key players stayed behind in Price due to illness. So coach Keith Palmer had to cobble together a lineup with some very inexperienced girls taking the field.

The biggest holes were on defense. Because Granger is a 5A school, they had a much deeper bench to draw on compared to the Lady Dinos.

The first half of play was where all the learning happened for the young Lady Dinos. Miscommunication took place as the players worked to play together, some for the first time at this level, and let Granger slip five goals into the net for the win.

But coach Palmer made a few corrections during the break and the Dinos came out with a renewed outlook.

Palmer saw their confidence grow as they repelled Granger the rest of the game. Sam Jones had some really good shots on goal that just missed going in for Carbon.

"We played our best half of soccer yet, yesterday against Granger," Palmer said. "Sam Jones didn't get a score, but made some fantastic plays. Things began to click for her and the rest of the team fed off of it. Their confidence carried over into practice today."

The team will take on Grantsville today at home.

Palmer is confident that this is a game his team can finally find their success with. He feels if they can keep their momentum going from Monday, things will fall in place just as they get geared up for region action.
