Improving girl's soccer team working through preseason

They have not had a win yet this season, but the Carbon High girls soccer team is improving with each game.

A very good Stansbury team came to town and beat them 6-0, but it wasn't as easy as the score might reflect.

A very soggy field did not help either team. Between the rain storm the previous night and a long daily drenching from the college sprinkling system, there were deep puddles along the west sideline and slick grass on the playing surface. Stansbury also arrived late and the game finally got underway with the spectators sitting far back to avoid the standing water.

Carbon was able to hold Stansbury to only a goal for almost all of the first half and then the Dino defense had a few breakdowns. Dino goalkeeper Sierra Williams is in her first year as a soccer player and held her own with several solid saves that kept the score close in the first half of play.

"Sierra did what she needed to do. She wants to get better and will work hard to fix anything she thinks needs improving," remarked coach Keith Palmer. "But our biggest problem is that we are not going to the ball. It is something I can't teach them, it comes from the heart. Hopefully they will find it within to get out there and challenge their opponents. They started to do it in the final half of the JV game."

Palmer sees improvement even since their game last Friday. He knows they are playing better than a year ago as well. They still have three more preseason games to help work on things. Uintah will be in town on Thursday at 4 p.m. for the next challenge.
