Torrent of mud hits NE Price

It was a short but intense rainfall that pounded the Price-Carbonville area Monday evening. In fact, the sun was shining again as the flood waters surged downhill carrying tons of mud and debris into city streets. 800 North Street between 700 East and Mead's Wash became a river of mud that continued to flow three hours after the storm had passed. The reaction among the younger set was pure delight at something different. Clockwise from top left: A young bicyclist gets in trouble as he pedals through the brown water near the curb. The tire lugs spray him with silt, making a mess of his clothes and shoes. The corner of 800 North and 1000 East shows how wide the flow was. The water covers the curbs and sidwalks on both sides of the street. Amanda Van Wagoner finds an interesting camera angle as she wades in the shin-deep water just before it reaches Meads's wash. The twin standing waves around her legs give an idea of the velocity of the stream. High wind also knocked at least one tree in Carbonville. By late Tuesday morning, the affected section of 800 North resembled a dirt road. City workers armed with a fire hose blasted the remaining dirt downstream into the wash.
