Searchers find runaway girl in canyon

Area police and county search-and-rescue volunteers scale the rugged cliffs around East Carbon and Sunnyside Friday afternoon in search of an 11-year-old East Carbon girl who had been reported as runaway and missing. She was spotted on a steep rock outcropping with her dog at the mouth of Whitmore Canyon just before 8 p.m. After searchers led her and her dog down through the rocks and into their vehicles, she was taken to the local public safety building to confer with area officials and her parents. She was able to climb down through the rocks on her own and appeared to be unharmed.
