Three Cal Ripken teams from Carbon County have headed out to their respective tournaments, hoping to add more accolades along the way.

Carbon 8-year-olds, 11-year-olds and the 12-year-olds are 2011 State Champions from Utah.

They each head to different locations for the Pacific Southwest region. There will teams from Utah, Arizona, California, Nevada, Guam and Hawaii.

Shane Henrie is over the Cal Ripken program this year and said that all three teams are playing well and have a great chance at success as they head to their next tournaments.

"It would be nice to have a team from Carbon win and head to the World Series. It is much tougher since the change over to Cal Ripken from the old WBBA. There are more teams and much more difficult to get past the regional play," he said.

The eight-year-olds will will head up to Riverton. The 11-year-olds will go to Beaver. The 12-year-olds get to travel to Surprise, Ariz., for their Pacific Southwest regional play.

All tournament action will take place July 24-29.

Check back in Thursday's edition of the Sun Advocate for updates and scores from each team's journey through their respective tournaments.
