County motocross track in bad shape, biker tells commission

The Carbon-Emery Motorcycle Club is disappointed with what has happened to the county's motocross track at the fairgrounds since the turn of the century. Also, the rest room there is often locked, which poses occasionally urgent problems of its own.

Tony Jaramillo, representing the club, told county commissioners Wednesday that the track is in "disarray" and probably needs to be rebuilt. Racing, practicing and grooming have all taken a toll on the dirt to the point where obstacles are disappearing or damaged.

All of which Commissioner Mike Milovich had heard before. He reminded Jaramillo of an earlier conversation they had, and Milovich said he had asked then for a list of suggested improvements. "It hasn't happened yet," Milovich commented. He explained that he's comfortable dealing with buildings and other issues in the county, but he knows nothing at all about what motocross racers want or need. The commissioner added that the county is willing to look at ways to refurbish the track and amenities, but it needs a plan and some professional advice on what to do.

Commissioner Jae Potter added that these improvements are something that will have to be budgeted.

One complication is that as of Wednesday, there was no map available detailing all the twists and turns and jumps at the facility to help locate problem spots. There is probably a copy somewhere, and Milovich said he'd be glad to help in the search.

As for the locked toilet, it was suggested that it be opened at sunrise and locked at sunset.
