A battalion of volunteer workers converged on Helper and the Castle Gate Cemetery Saturday to dig, chop and hack for community beautification. About 450 people showed up beginning at 7 a.m. to remove branches, weeds and litter from the Helper Parkway (above), and to rid the cemetery of overgrown native plants. Volunteers also took part in fix-up and clean-up projects around town. City and county trucks hauled away debris. After work, the Helper Pool was open for a free swim day. The event was organized by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Participants of all ages and faiths joined in the effort.
