A 56-year old Price man was struck and killed by lightning in Emery County on Monday afternoon.

Joseph Louis Geiser was struck by lightning while he was out in the area of the Wedge Overlook, about 20 miles east of Castle Dale, out in the San Rafael Desert, according to a press release from the Emery County Sheriff's Office.

Emery County authorities responded to a call at 3:55 p.m. of a report that a man was struck by lightning near the Wedge Overlook, the release stated. Emergency personnel responded to the scene where CPR was already being performed on Geiser by a family member who was with him. Despite their efforts, emergency personnel were unable to revive Geiser and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
