Independence Day: Fourth of July weekend in Carbon County
Independence Day celebrations began before the Fourth of July. On Friday, Scofield Town kicked off its traditional Pleasant Valley Days. Vendors filled the park, and crowds lined the street for Saturday's parade. Doris Trease, one of the founders of the celebration, was this year's grand marshal. The Kiwanis Club of Price also hosted the Rubber Duckie Race down Mud Creek. Fireworks from the island in the lake Saturday capped off the events.
The community celebration changed venue to the Carbon County Fairgrounds Monday evening. The Southeastern Utah Energy Producers Association with other community sponsors staged hours of activities, contests and demonstrations for event-goers. There were fireworks lighting the sky for the evening's grand finale. More photos are on page 3A.
