35th Annual Rocky Mountain Miners competition hits Price

Beginning last Tuesday, June 14, miners from all over the western United States descended upon Price to put their skills to the test at the 35th Annual Rocky Mountain Coal Miners Contest. The competition measures team skills in the mine rescue, benchman, pre-shift and first aid areas, testing both personal wherewithal and team intelligence. This year's contest included: Consol Energy Company's Emery Mine, Twenty Mile Coal Mine, Bridger Coal Company, Oxbow Mining, Blue Mountain Energy's Deserado Mine, Signal Peak Energy, Mountain Coal Company's West Elk Mine, Arch Coal Company's Skyline Mine, Sufco Mine and Dugout Mine, UtahAmerican Energy's Westridge Mine and the Energy West Mining Company.
For as long as there as been a Castle Valley, there have been coal mines within, coal mines which serve as the life blood of this area. The Sun Advocate and the following sponsors would like to take this opportunity to thank the brave men and women who who leave the light of day behind to pull world class bituminous coal from the ground and give fuel to the lights in our homes.
