Price Legion gets big win to start off road tourney
After staring off their most recent road trip with a 14-12 win, the Price American Legion squad struggled as they traveled to Rock Springs, Wyo. June 10-12 for a series of games.
The team's initial victory over Green River, Wyo. was short lived as they struggled with a 19-1 loss to Evanston followed by a 21-5 loss to Riverton on Saturday. Finally, they dropped a 12-2 game to Rock Springs, to wrap up the trip.
During the tournament's first day, Price was feeling the love, Nick Rhoades made a awesome catch. Tyson Damron pitched a complete game with eight strike outs and Carl Wilson hit his first home run of the season in the top of the 5th. Tyson Damron hit his second homer of the season with two on base later on and Price hung on to take the win against Green River, 14-12.
Friday's second contest saw the Price defense and offense struggle. Many errors cost the local team a win. Dalen Wilson made a diving catch in the top of the 2nd for one of Price's few defensive highlights as Price went down 19-1.
In Saturday's game against Riverton. Tyson Damron and Anthony Montoya both hit triples in the bottom of 1st, Damron scored but Montoya was left on base. The wheels fell off in the 2nd, as Dalen Wilson was taken out as pitcher and replaced by Damron. Another pitching change was made before the inning was over and Carl Wilson took the mound. Price loses 21-5.
Sunday's game started out strong once again, with a couple of hits and a two RBI double from Austin Adderley. However, the Price offense stalled once again as Rock Springs posted the "W" 12-2.
"A lot of errors were made out on the field," said coach Willie Ellington. "Since the boy's don't play high school ball, they sometimes struggle with their fundamentals, but they are improving."
Price took on Moab on Tuesday afternoon for a double header at home. Scores were unavailable at press time, and will be posted next week.
