The Utah Division of Arts & Museums has awarded a $500 arts education grant to Cathy Wilson, a teacher at Helper Elementary. She was one of 15 teachers statewide who won the honor. The money is to be used to gain skills and knowledge in an artistic discipline of her choice.

In addition, the school received a $1,000 arts grant from the division, one of 21 awarded in Utah to schools, school districts and nonprofit organizations. The grant can support either 40 hours of artist-in-residence at the school or a comprehensive arts education project utilizing the services of artists or artistic companies.

"Arts education is critical to building our communities," said Margaret Hunt, Utah Division of Arts & Museums Director. "We are proud to be able to offer this financial assistance to help schools and organizations work with professional artists, gain innovative tools that can be used to reach learners, and ensure quality arts education in our schools and our communities."
