A large open pit near 700 E and Main Street is the result of a leak in the valves beneath the surface of the street. Price City workers are digging to expose the pipes and valves, which are about 12 feet deep, according to Gary Sonntag, Price City public works director. Sonntag said that the old valves have malfunctioned and need to be replaced. Water has been leaking from the pipes, but the situation is not as bad as it could have been. A combination of old valves and alkali has been a factor in the corrosion of the pipe. Sonntag said the construction work should be completed by mid-week.
