Carbon School District announces awards for exemplary performance
Image 1: Carbon School District has announced its Extra-Mile Award winners. They are: Clara Jenson, Teacher of the Year; Melissa Hamilton, Administrator of the year; Teri Marquez, Volunteer of the Year; and Karen Snook, Classified Employee of the Year.
Clara is an instructional coach at Castle Heights, working directly with teachers to improve instructional strategies. Melissa has served as principal at Bruin Point until February of this year, is now principal at Wellington; she was instrumental in leading Bruin Point to unprecedented growth in student achievement in her five years at Bruin Point. Teri has served as a volunteer at Bruin Point, reporting faithfully on a daily basis to work with students and with teachers. Karen, as a long-term teacher's aide at Sally Mauro, has affected the lives of countless students going through that school.
Image 2: Tisa ManusÂ receivedÂ Carbon's first Superintendent's Choice Award. Tisa has served as the instructional/reading coach at Bruin Point for 10 years. She has been a critical part of the school's academic success. As an instructional coach, Tisa has worked tirelessly alongside her principal and staff and with students at Bruin Point,Â compiling and analyzing student achievement results, designing and prescribingÂ targeted instructional strategies, and in small groups with students. Tisa is retiring after more than 30 years in education.
