PRICE - Geronimo "Jerry" Guadalupe Chavez, age 78, passed away May 13, 2011 at Utah Valley Hospital from the results of an accident.
He was born Feb. 26, 1933 in San Jose, NM to Moeses J. and Elfides Martinez Chavez.
Married Irene Quesada, later divorced. On Sept. 13, 1969, he married Bernice Vasquez Padilla in Las Vegas, Nev., and their wedding vows were renewed at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Helper.
Jerry worked at Ford Motor Company, (but he wished it was Chevy). After retiring from Ford, Jerry moved to Utah where he worked in the coal mines and owned and operated B.J.'s Green Burrito Restaurant. Jerry also worked at the College of Eastern Utah where he was well known and respected by all on the campus.
Jerry was an active member of the Catholic Church. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was honored to serve his country. Jerry's life revolved around his family and he will be remembered as a hard working individual who put others needs first.
Survived by his wife, Bernice Chavez, Price; children, Robin Chavez, Moreno Valley, Calif; Cindy (Dennis) Duarte, Canyon Lake, Calif; Sigfred Padilla, Price; one brother and three sisters, Candy Lopez, Pico Rivera, Calif; Charles (Victoria) Chavez, Moreno Valley, Calif; Priscilla Ayala, Pico Rivera, Calif; Linda (Edward) Mills, Rio Rancho, NM; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, numerous Godchildren, nieces and nephews; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Louie Vasquez, Price; LeRoy (Julie) Vasquez, Kansas; Viola Loy, Kenilworth; Ralph (Veronica) Vasquez, California; Bonzo (Orlinda) Vasquez, Kenilworth; Mike (Della) Gurule, Price; Ruby Vasquez, Price.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Tony Duran; and his beloved dog "Chata".
Funeral Mass, Wednesday, May 18, 2011, 1 p.m., St. Anthony Catholic Church, Helper. Vigil service Tuesday evening 7 p.m., Mitchell Funeral Home. Family will be at Mitchell's Tuesday and Wednesday one hour prior to service. Committal service, Mt. View Cemetery, Helper.
