CARBONVILLE - Our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, Elsie Garcia Trujillo Saiz, age 78, passed away May 11, 2011 at her home.
She was born December 11, 1932 in Durango, Colo., to Silverio and Crestina Martinez Garcia.
Married Chris J. Trujillo, 1951 in Farmington, NM; he later died. She married Ray Saiz in Farmington, NM in 2002. He also preceded her in death.
Elsie was a member of the Catholic Church. She was an active member of the Democratic Party and a staunch advocate for the under-privileged. Her life was dedicated to the service of others and she enjoyed helping individuals obtain their citizenship and learn English. Elsie loved reading and she was always looking for new ways to increase her knowledge. She had an extensive collection of books and was always keeping up with the latest trends and current events in the world.
For years Elsie worked as an elementary teacher in the Carbon, Ogden and Farmington, New Mexico school districts. She loved her students and was always looking for new ways to broaden their horizons. She was an avid reader, who loved to cook and collect antiques. Elsie dedicated her life to the service of others and she will always be remembered for her kindness and generosity.
She is survived by her children, Richard Trujillo, Grand Junction, Colo; Robert (Robin) Trujillo, East Carbon; Carl Trujillo, Price; Jenann Koss, Price; Valerie (Gary) Pilling, Grand Junction, Colo; her brother, Junior (Antonia) Garcia, Zaragoza, Spain; and many loving grandchildren and great- grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, son, Chris Trujillo; brothers, Rudy, Manuel, Joe, Raymond and Lawrence; sister, Patricia; and infant sister Dixie.
Memorial Mass, Friday, May 20, 2011, Noon, Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church, Price. Vigil service Thursday evening 7 p.m., Mitchell Funeral Home in Price. Family will be at Mitchell's Thursday and at the church Friday one hour prior to services. Committal service, Cliffview Cemetery, Price.
